Workshops are not all about work. We have a few special events during the workshops ranging from special guest speakers to BBQ's.
Mark Dubovoy and the Color Process
Mark has recently been giving special lectures at our workshops concerning his color imaging. He has become a leading expert on the Carbon Pigment Process and has recently written two articles for Photo Techniques Magazine; The Joy of Carbon Pigment Prints (part #1, July/August, 2002 & part #2, November/December, 2002).
It is indeed a pleasure to have Mark as part of our workshop program. He is a great guy who gets his message across so well that even I can understand what the heck he is talking about.

He is working with high end digital printers & archival pigments as well as traditional methods and is producing some outstanding images. His work can be found in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City.
Whether we believe in some of Mark's methods or not, it is indeed something to consider and talk about. We are all faced with the "digital age" and I find it refreshing to hear what Mark has to say about it and to see such wonderful results from all of his study, research and work.

I truly believe that any color and/or b&w photographer would benefit from his discussion. Please give us a call to express your interest hearing Mark's discussion.
Larry Gustafson
I am proud to have Larry Gustafson as a friend and key speaker at many of your workshops. He has given our participants some serious things to think about concerning the creative process. He has given a lot of time and effort in studying the remarkable creative power of some very notable photographers.
Larry has the ability to present this information to our groups and in turn, starts some great discussions related to the meaning of what we are trying to accomplish.
Larry Gustafson has photographed with a large format camera for several years. In addition to being an active photographer, Larry has researched and analyzed the creative process and the creative philosophies of various photographers concerning their photographic art. Larry speaks and writes frequently about the creative process and about the work of master photographers, such as Edward Weston, Wynn Bullock, Minor White and Richard Garrod, all of whom are examples of the successful application of creativity to photography.

In April 2002, Larry was the keynote speaker at the Monterey Museum of Art for the centennial celebration and retrospective showing of Wynn Bullock's photographic art (see PhotoTechniques Magazine Sept./Oct., 2002, Tribute to Wynn Bullock - The Century Birthday Celebration: by Al Weber).
Larry continues to speak, write and research in this area and is currently writing an analytical comparison of the creative process of several well-known photographers.

Workshop Entertainment
Do these people look like they are having fun! Well, they are...believe me. Meet Tom & Melinda Oldfield, our official Workshop Entertainment Directors.
A few years ago Tom & Melinda decided they wanted to have a barbecue for our workshop participants the evening of the last day of the workshop. Now it has become a tradition and part of the plan. Tom cooks up a wonder feast of Tri Tip, beans, salad and bread. Melinda coordinates the activities and makes sure Tom gets everything done properly and sees to it that everyone is having a good time.
To be very honest we all pitch in and have a great evening...good food, music, drink, stories, fantastic lies and wonderful company. We might even talk some photography and take a photo or two.
It's a good opportunity to try out your digital camera on your new friends. If you've never had the opportunity to join us for the "big party" you need to do it. It's a wonderful ending to a great week of photography.
